Two weeks ago, I was just out of hospital and confined to barracks and I got an email on my Iphone. A very interesting email.
I’d been checking my work emails despite being zombified by painkillers (yes, I am a card-carrying workaholic), and I got an email from James asking if myself and Jim fancied running the Lakeland trail marathon at the start of July. The three of us work together, and share a passion for running off the beaten track (we’re now three years in a row Mighty Deerstalker veterans). This would be a step up, in terms of adventure and endurance.
By the end of the week, Jim had signed up for it, and despite the look of things (see pic I took at the hospital just after I woke up), I was feeling I needed something to aim for, and this could be it.
Eyebrows raised & cue blog (thanks Natasha for doing all the leg work as I can’t even sit up for more than 15 mins at the mo).
Almost straight away it’s bad news though! Was at the docs today to check on the progress/lack of it. I’m now signed off work for another two weeks. TWO WEEKS!!! AAAARGH (my wife wrote the ALL CAPS).
And even worse news: “Forget about the marathon Mr Hutchison, it’s not going to happen, not in July, not even in August”, said my GP.
I don’t like “no”. It’s so final. I actually started sweating. Can I still train for my first marathon in just 8 weeks? We’ll find out.
